Sukyung Kim is a Korean born, New York City based pianist, composer and improviser. She began studying classical music from age 5. Later she discovered Wynton Kelly, Keith Jarrett, and Brad Mehldau, leading her to further study jazz and improvised music. She moved to New York City to study at New York University and received private guidance from legendary jazz pianists Alan Broadbent and Kevin Hays. In May 2020, Sukyung Kim released her debut album, "Lilac Hill", featuring collaborations with Jongkuk Kim, Luca Alemanno, Ethan Helm, and Paul JB Lee. It was nominated for best jazz album category of the Korean Music Awards in 2021. She has recently been featured in albums of Marcelo Maccagnan and Owen Chen. Currently residing in Brooklyn, Sukyung Kim continues to write, perform and teach.
